If you’re looking to start a business, one of the considerations and questions you need to ask yourself is whether you want to start an independent business or a franchise. Although I already know the US pretty well, doing business here is new to me. From my experience of setting up a successful business in the Netherlands I know that it takes a lot of time and energy to get through the startup period. Therefore, buying a franchise would be beneficial. A franchisor provides support in many ways (business, marketing and sales support, etc.).

In recent months I have had meetings with various franchise companies. TeamLogic IT quickly appealed to me the most. TeamLogic IT is one of the most forward-thinking IT franchises in the nation. By focusing on helping small and medium-sized businesses navigate the ever-changing world of technology, and by delivering solutions that keep these businesses safe, secure and operational, TeamLogic IT has emerged as a trusted, top-rated brand. Founded in 2005, TeamLogic IT has grown to over 243 locations across the nation.

Decision day

Last Tuesday was ‘decision day’. Roy and I were invited at the headquarters in Mission Viejo (near Los Angeles), California. We were asked to come the day before, so we could go out for dinner with some members of the board.

Together with Patrick (Director of Franchise Development)

On Tuesday we arrived at the headquarters at 8 AM. We were kindly being welcomed by the management and there was already a sign at the entrance with our names on it. That certainly makes you feel welcome. In the following 6 hours we had meetings with all vice presidents of the company to talk us through the various disciplines: business support, sales, marketing, research & product development. At 4 PM we had a final interview with the President. Both parties agreed that we were a perfect match: my knowledge of IT combined with the experience of running a business for over 20 years would be a great asset and the experience and support of the franchise would be beneficial to me as well. After signing the franchise agreement every employee in the building came in to personally congratulate us with becoming part of our new “business family”.

So what is next?

The upcoming weeks we will focus on finding the right office location and getting all the necessary business permits and licenses to operate our business in Fresno. After that, we will attend a training to get all the necessary knowledge about the business and services. Also, we will start the process of hiring the first employee: a level 3 technician.

We’ll keep you posted.
