Fresno is a big city with a lot to do, see and experience. Although Fresno is the fifth largest city of the state, it’s not a fast and busy lifestyle. Also, the coast is a short 2 hours to the west and the mountains are a short 2 hours to the east. It’s nice to live in the middle of everything and not have to take long and far drives for fun vacations. We’re starting to feel at home.

Cycling

As the area where we live is bike-friendly, we bought ourselves two Giant city bikes at a local bike store this week. The area offers bike trails connecting Fresno to Clovis (a town on the east side of Fresno) as well as small bike repair stations in most parks alongside the trails. Surprisingly enough, we haven’t seen those in Holland although you would expect that from a country that is known for it cyclists. The trails wind through several spacious parks with playgrounds. The southern portion of the trail weaves its way into the Clovis Old Town Trail which spans 5.8 miles and winds through the historic, western-themed town of Old Town Clovis.

House hunting

Our current home is in the northeast part of Fresno. The neighborhoods are modern and safe. On Saturday we went to an open house in eastern Clovis. Although the house was definitely nice, we feel that we like the neighborhoods in northeast Fresno and west Clovis better. That helps us narrowing down the area for house hunting in the upcoming months.

Business update

Hoorah, my LLC is finally registered! On Friday, I visited the bank to open a business account. Their back office will check all the forms and after their approval, I can start using the account. I expect that will be taken care of in the next few business days as I am planning to buy an IT franchise in the beginning of February. I’m going to search for an office space in February as well.

What’s next?

On Tuesday, we’re having our behind-the-wheel tests. We are allowed to drive with our Dutch drivers license until May, so it wouldn’t be a big deal in case we or one of us would fail. Hopefully we will pass since having a national ID makes life so much easier here.

My cousin Pim will come visit us on Thursday since he needs to be in Las Vegas for work next week. We’ll spend a day in LA together before we’ll head back to Fresno. We’re looking forward to having him over for a couple of days.

We’ll keep you all posted.
